Carrot Flowers?

Do your kids ever get tired of carrot sticks?
How about giving them carrot flowers?

First peel and slice the carrot into circles

Then with a v-shaped cutter I cut very small v's around the edges.
A paring knife will work just as well.

Make sure you don't cut all the way to the center.

and PRESTO... carrot flowers!

Then into a bento (of course they would be just as cute on a dinner plate,
if your kids need some incentive to eat veggies)!

Top Photo left to right: carrot 'flowers', half a banana, pretzel sticks,
cheese ridges, robins eggs.
Middle Photo: added a pocket (turkey, cheddar, mustard) sandwich.
Bottom Photo: added ranch dressing (in a little smidget) and the lid.

I used a cut-N-seal to make the pocket sandwich.
I have three different sized of the cut-N-seal, which is great.
It doesn't look like Pampered Chef still carries the three sizes.
All my Pampered Chef items are thanks to my sister for
having 'parties' every year for 5 or 6 years.

A Template Change, A Letter, and Another Bento

You should see a few changes here at MAHAH! First, I've switched the template to 3 columns. It's taking me a little while to get used to the new template! I keep looking for things on the right sidebar. With that change came a need for a new background, which I found this cute one at Hot Bliggity Blog.

 ~oOo~

In other news... we received our "letter" from the United States Department of Commerce, informing us that "in about one week, you will receive a 2010 Census form in the mail". Thanks for the warning!

~oOo~

I also tried making Audrey another bento (our first one was last Tues.). I
still haven't gone "regular" grocery shopping,
so once again, I went with what we had on hand.

Clockwise from top left: dill pickle spears, turkey, cheddar & mustard sandwiches, bbq chips, cheddar cheese sticks, the other half of her sandwich and carrot sticks with ranch.

The dressing I put in a tiny Smidget Tupperware container.
Perfect.

First Try

Have you seen all the fun blogs & sites showcasing bento's? Like here, here, or maybe here? Aren't they amazing?

My daughter has been hinting for a bento lunch for quite awhile. Well, I decided today would be the day! I have been collecting egg molds, cute picks and "boxes", but I hadn't actually "shopped" for the food for a bento.

Even with using only what was on hand...Audrey loved it!

Going left to right: deviled eggs (both rows), tuna salad roll-ups (both rows), cheddar cheese (top right),
heart shaped hard boiled egg (bottom right)

The tuna salad roll-ups were made with regular bread with the crusts removed then
rolled thin. Spread with tuna salad & thinly cut strips of cheddar cheese. Then roll
and cut into inch size rolls. I gave her picks to eat them with.

Placed the food in silicone cupcake liners and put into a box.
Lunch served!
